Scoring

Krillion scoring, tiers and depth — explained

Every answer you give is scored by one measure only: how rare it is. Common answers score 10 points; the rarest answer on a prompt scores 100. Your score is also your depth — each point sinks your diver 10 metres, and 700 points is the 7,000m trench floor.

The tier table

TierPointsDepth per answerWhat it means
🫧 Plankton10 pts100mThe answer everyone blurts out.
🤡 Too Clever15 pts150mA famously “obscure” pick. Everyone reaches for it.
🐟 Schooler30 pts300mSolid — swims with the school.
🦑 Rare60 pts600mGenuinely uncommon. Nice pull.
🏮 Deep Cut85 pts850mTrue obscurity. Few go this deep.

How a dive adds up

Seven prompts, one answer each. A dive of all Plankton answers — the seven most obvious responses — scores 70 points and barely leaves the surface at 700m. Mix in Schoolers and you reach the 200s. The divers who post 400+ are landing Rare and Deep Cut answers on most prompts, and a single One in a Krillion (100 points, a full kilometre of depth on its own) can rescue an otherwise ordinary dive.

Marathon mode runs the same arithmetic over 21 prompts, so its ceiling is 2,100 points — though the depth gauge still tops out at the 7,000m trench, which a marathon diver in form touches with prompts to spare.

The verdict bands on your results screen

0–150 — Plankton. Plenty of ocean left down there. The obvious answers won this round.

151–250 — Schooler. Swimming with the school: solid, safe, rarely surprising.

251–350 — Rare. Below the thermocline. You out-thought most of the crowd.

351–449 — Deep Cut. A seriously deep dive, built on answers most players never reach.

450+ — One in a Krillion. Trench dweller territory. Absurd, in the best way.

Your results also show a percentile — roughly what share of players your score beats, modelled on a typical day's spread where most divers land mid-tier. Treat it as a weather report, not a verdict: the verdict bands above are the fixed yardstick.

How does the game decide how rare an answer is?

Each prompt carries a fixed bank of accepted answers, ranked in advance from the response a crowd gives first (Plankton) down to the answer almost nobody finds (One in a Krillion). Your score is simply where your answer sits in that ranking. Nothing is scored live and nothing is arbitrary — the same answer to the same prompt always earns the same tier, which is why challenges between friends are fair, and why studying published answers genuinely makes you better at the game.
